Along with cannabis usage seeing a resurgence, hemp is also becoming more widely used—especially in the health food industry.
Hemp seeds bring a healthy dose of fatty acids and anti-inflammatory properties. For this reason, they have become a part of smoothies and yogurt parfaits. Now, mixologists are getting in the hemp game too.
One such mixologist is Johnny Swet from N.Y.C.’s Dream Hotel, who recently unveiled his “Going Back to Cali” cocktail blended with hemp seeds. “I was thinking about Californian ingredients, and nothing is more California than avocado, citrus, and tequila,” Swet told InStyle. “Hemp also has some great health benefits and adds an earthiness to the cocktail.”
If you can’t make it all the way to New York City to try Swet’s hemp seed cocktail, you can try making your own at home.
Here’s the simple 3-step recipe:
Going Back to Cali Cocktail Recipe
2 oz. Herradura Tequila
2 oz. Avocado purée
1/2 oz. Tuaca Vanilla Citrus Liqueur
For the Avocado Purée
1/2 avocado, diced
4 oz. of simple syrup
4 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 tbsp of ground hemp powder
- Start making the avocado purée in your blender by blending the ingredients until smooth. Place purée in the refrigerator. (It will keep for up to 48 hours.)
- When you are ready to make the cocktail, add tequila, purée and Tuaca in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain over fresh ice in a glass.
