Two years ago, Florida passed what is known as a “CBD-only law” which was intended to allow sick children access to CBD oil. However, two years later these children still have not received access to the oil for treatment.
Several other states have passed similar laws, which strictly allow for the use of CBD oil as the only source of medical marijuana. The laws also restrict the use of CBD oil to one specific cannabinoid—one that is geared specifically toward children suffering from seizures.
Florida State Senator Rob Bradley told The Cannabist, “We passed a law to respond to concerns from suffering families and we look up here a couple years later and we still do not have the relief promised to those families.”
The senator is frustrated that the children have yet to be able to access CBD oil for use as a treatment option.
The biggest issue the legislation is facing is that the general use of cannabis is prohibited at both the federal and state levels; therefore, the delay is likely being caused by governmental figures that do not approve of CBD oil because it contains THC.
